MEM Design è un progetto che nasce nel 2008 e che si è sviluppato negli anni rafforzato dalla passione per la musica che non mi ha fermato di fronte allo scetticismo per la scelta di usare Marmo e Fibra di Carbonio nella realizzazione di strumenti musicali elettrici.

Nell'HI-FI di alto livello (High End) sono stati prodotti diffusori in materiale lapideo con caratteristiche eccellenti.
Gli strumenti MEM Design (bassi e chitarre Solid body) sono caratterizzati da una struttura in Fibra di Carbonio e Marmo; corpo e manico sono un unico elemento che non necessita di viti ne di successive regolazioni.
La tecnica costruttiva è piuttosto complessa e si articola in diverse fasi di lavorazione che vanno dalla scelta del materiale "sano" (senza difetti ), all’intaglio, al rinforzo strutturale, fino ad arrivare al montaggio dell'elettronica e alle prove in studio.
Ogni singolo strumento prodotto è un pezzo unico, con una sua caratteristica ed una sua personale capacità espressiva.
Il marmo, come tutti i materiali naturali, non essendo riproducibile industrialmente, presenta delle caratteristiche di unicità che distinguono ogni lastra sia negli aspetti estetici che in quelli strutturali garantendo ogni volta un’esperienza di suono irripetibile.
Gli strumenti MEM Design sono un prodotto completamente MADE IN ITALY. |
Hi-fi high-level speakers (high-end) were produced in stone with excellent features.
MEM Design tools (bass and guitars Solid Body) are characterized by a structure made of Carbon Fiber and Marble; body and neck are a single element that does not require screws or successive adjustments.
The construction technique is quite complex and is divided into different phases ranging from the choice of a"healthy" material (without defects), the notch, the structural reinforcement, up to the electronics assembly and studio testing.
Each tool product is unique, with its own unique and personal expressiveness.
The marble, like all natural materials, not being reproducible industrially, has some unique characteristics that distinguish each plate both in the aesthetical and structural aspects, ensuring every time an unrepeatable sound experience.

Immaginarsi una chitarra o un qualsiasi altro strumento realizzato in marmo può sembrare alquanto strano. Appena se ne parla sorge subito il dubbio sulla possibilità o meno di far suonare un materiale lapideo.
Il marmo viene ancora oggi concepito come non adatto, pesante, fragile, rigido ma in verità non sono stato il primo a pensare a questo materiale per la riproduzione del suono.
“…ogni pietra percossa emette un suono (questa peculiarità ha fatto si che un marmo, estratto nel bacino di Colonnata, nelle Apuane, prendesse il nome di Campanella); questa caratteristica, principalmente usata per verificare la compattezza, è stata anche sfruttata per realizzare strumenti musicali. A Carrara nacque il più celebre esecutore di strumenti musicali in marmo; Michele Antonio Grandi (1635-1707) che grazie alla protezione della famiglia Cybo lavorò a Roma presso lo studio di Gianlorenzo Bernini. Ritornato a Carrara si dedicò alla realizzazione di strumenti musicali. Nella Galleria Estense di Modena si conservano un bellissimo clavicembalo, una chitarra ed un flauto in marmo 4. A Carrara furono presenti altre figure di musicisti intagliatori che produssero opere eccezionali, tra questi Giovan Battista Cassarini (1643-1700) del quale, sempre nelle collezioni Estensi, è presente un bellissimo violino. La tradizione in questo particolare settore a Carrara continuò fino al secolo XVIII con Andrea Fortini. Attualmente in marmo sono in produzione chitarre elettriche di indubbio pregio estetico.” (Augusto Giuffredi)

Imagine a guitar or any other instrument made of marble may seem rather strange. The doubt is about whether or not a stone material can make sound.
The marble is still seen as not suitable, heavy, fragile, hard but in truth I was not the first to think of this material for the reproduction of sound.
"... Every stone struck beeps (this feature has meant that a marble extracted in the city of Colonnata, in the Apuan Alps, got called Campanella); this characteristic, mainly used to verify the compactness, has also been exploited to realize musical instruments. In Carrara was born the most famous performer of musical instruments in marble; Michele Antonio Grandi (1635-1707) thanks to the protection of the Royal Cybo family, he worked in Rome at the studio of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He returned to Carrara devoted himself to the creation of musical instruments. In the Estense Gallery in Modena are preserved a beautiful harpsichord, a guitar and a flute in marble 4. In Carrara were other figures of musicians carvers who produced exceptional works in marble, including Giovan Battista Cassarini (1643-1700) which, again in the collections Estense, it is a beautiful violin. The tradition in this particular area in Carrara continued until the eighteenth century by Andrea Fortini. Currently are in production electric guitars in marble of great aesthetic value. Dopo anni di ricerca, e dopo aver brevettato il prodotto, MEM Design è riuscita a unire due materiali come il "Marmo" e la "Fibra di Carbonio" per la realizzazione di strumenti musicali (chitarre e bassi elettrici), dal peso contenuto e dal Design inconfondibile con risultati davvero Unici.
